How do they work?

A conditioner is a rather simple device really. What it does is connect to a battery and monitor the amount of charge. When it falls below a certain level, it will pulse to recharge it. As a result it will effectively counter the self-discharge and retain the right amount of charge so the battery does not fail.

Are they safe?

Some people will naturally have some concerns about connecting something to their car battery and leaving it on for a long period of time. However, the devices are designed to be safe.

For starters, the pulses are generally only a few amps. Overcharging won’t happen because the conditioner won’t pulse until it needs to.

While the pulses are low amp, it is worth remembering that the charging can generate some heat. Over time this could even lead to off-gassing. You need to be careful with this to ensure it does not build up. What you must do is ensure the space where you are storing your space has suitable ventilation.

Another thing you should do is make sure the environment is dry. You don’t want any moisture near the battery or conditioner.
