With more than 30 years of experience in transporting and storing cars, we understand what our customers want. They want their vehicle to have the best protection while it is out of their hands. We are able to give this to them thanks to our air chambers. They use state of the art materials to keep everything free from condensation.
Anyone that collects and restores vintage cars will likely be looking for storage solutions that will protect their vehicles. Usually, collectors only drive these models a few times every year. Summer is a prime time for this. The rest of the time they need to be safely in storage. This needs to be convenient and safe. If storage is on your mind, you will need to prepare each vehicle.
Lubrication
To begin with, you will need to keep everything lubricated. Cars have several moving components. We are referring to more than just the engine though. Prior to beginning your long-term storage, be sure to grab the oil. Work on the hinges of the boot, door, and bonnet. You might want to try using white lithium grease for rubber components on the tyres and doors. For the locks, use a graphite-based lubricant. This helps to stop everything from freezing shut.
Preparing the exterior
Just like when you clean furniture prior to storing it, use the same rules for your vehicle. Choose top calibre car care items to wax, buff, and wash your car. This is before you cover and store it. Don’t forget to examine the car’s underside and take care of anything on the bottom that is stuck. You may have rust problems otherwise.
Do some tyre checks too. Flat spots might show up in long term storage. They are a bigger issue with vintage cars and non-belted tyres. A good approach here would be to deflate your tyres to around 10psi less than the manufacturer’s recommendation. Use jacks if storing your car for over 6 months.
Air chambers are a robust and easy option
At Rudler Car Transportation and Storage, we prefer to use the cair-o-port air chamber. It comes with an exterior frame that is robust and not difficult to set up. Furthermore, the frame makes gaining access to the chambers easy. Once everything is ready, the chamber remains in place until you return.
If you would like to use air chambers yourself, get in touch with us today. You can arrange storage with us and we would be happy to provide one for you.
